You still need a domain name and some suitable web hosting just like every other website but unlike many bespoke website designs, the user support base is huge with over 14 million users to date!
Since WordPress began, it has become the Number One Web Publishing Platform in the world and is now driving 20% of all new websites. I’m a web designer myself and I use it because it’s just so convenient and extendable. There are a huge selection of website themes to choose from and most of them have search engine optimisation as a priority feature.

It’s true that the examples shown here haven’t come straight out of the box and have benefitted from some additional input but it just goes to show what is possible.
